How to Travel with Gems

If you’re planning a getaway over the coming months, whether that’s jetting off somewhere exotic or taking a UK-based trip, it’s likely you’ll want to take some jewellery along with you.
Jewellery is an excellent addition to any travel bag. It’s such an easy and light-weight way to add drama and interest to any outfit. When you’re far from home it can also be reassuring to take along sentimental pieces that make you feel closer to any loved ones who might have stayed behind!
As jewellery tends to be small and light, packing it is often an afterthought. We know many a jewellery lover who will admit to popping a few last-minute pieces in with their make up bag, or even loose into their hand luggage. Sound familiar?
Here’s the serious bit: not packing your jewellery properly can lead to problems. Tiny items such as earrings or rings can get lost, necklaces and chains can become irreparably tangled, and all items can be damaged or discoloured by contact with sharp edges or make up.
Luckily there is a very easy way to avoid this! Traveling with gems and jewellery can be made much easier by choosing a dedicated storage container to pop them in. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy. A small make up bag or pouch will do at a pinch, as will a cardboard jewellery presentation case or small gift box. Just make sure whatever you use is clean and closes securely.
The only issue with storage solutions such as these is that jewellery can still become tangled when transported together. If you want to avoid this, we’d recommend using a jewellery travel roll. These are great for a number of reasons:
1. They’re pretty!
2. They’re lightweight and don’t take up much space
3. They’re soft and padded to protect jewellery from bumps
4. They allow you to store separate pieces of jewellery in separate compartments
If you’re traveling with particularly precious pieces of jewellery, it’s advisable to keep them in a dedicated jewellery box such as the one they came in. It may seem bulky: but it’ll be worth it to keep your special jewellery well protected.
Of course, deciding how to transport your jewellery may be much easier than deciding which pieces to take with you! Need a little inspiration? Take a look at these five perfect pieces of road trip bling.
