We’re fast approaching the most romantic day of the year! If you don’t know what we’re talking about, consider this a public service announcement: Valentine’s Day is this Sunday.
Love it or hate it, if you’re happily coupled up there’s probably no avoiding it. Jewellery is a V-Day gift that almost always goes down well. We’ve got a whole host of beautiful options online and in our York jewellery shop. Why not take a look? Our jewellery collection is versatile, varied and appeals to a whole spectrum of styles.
This last point is important as many of you will be buying a gift for someone who’s not a typical romantic. Does this sound like a familiar challenge? We’ve got you covered.
Here are our suggestions on how to buy non-cliche Valentine’s Jewellery.

Give heart-shaped jewellery a wide berth

A lot of us love heart-shaped jewellery… but giving it as a Valentine’s gift could be seen as getting a little too swept up in the sugar-sweet romance of the day.

Ditto anything red or pink

Again, red and pink jewellery is lovely but we’re pretty sure 99% of all Valentine’s day gifts fall into this colour category. If you want to stand out, you might be better to choose something different and save the rubies and rose-quartz for later on in the year.

Choose something personal

The best way to avoid cliche is to choose a piece of jewellery that will have a personal meaning to to recipient. You could do this by finding something with a gem they love or something in a shape that represents a particular interest of theirs.

Look for something quirky

If you really want to avoid anything cliche, our advice is to choose something as quirky as possible! How about a Russian Doll Necklace, a Disco Bracelet, some Gold Bee Stud Earrings, a Dog Walking Bracelet or some Tetris Silver Earrings?

Show that you’ve given it some thought

The number one way to avoid buying cliche Valentine’s Day jewellery is to give it some thought. Giving someone a red heart-shaped gift is always going to seem generic if that isn’t their usual thing. Instead, make an effort to find something for your loved one that’s exactly their style and it’s sure to be appreciated.
Still not sure where to start? Don’t worry. We’ve put together a dedicated Valentine’s collection to inspire you.
