How to Wear Bangles

There’s something a little magical about a wrist full of bangles. Perhaps it’s the way they catch the light, or maybe because they clink together as you move, but wearing them makes us feel a bit like like Hollywood manic pixie dream girls.
Of course, the line between quirky-manic-pixie-dream-girl and raided-mum’s-jewellery-box isn’t always as clear as we’d like it to be! Bangles can be gorgeously delicate and sophisticated when they’re done right, but it is very easy to cross over into cutesy kitsch territory. If that’s not your thing, take a look at our tips for how to wear bangles the elegant way.

Choose precious metals over plastics

If you’re keen to keep your bangles looking sophisticated, our advice would be to steer well clear of plastic. Though these can be bright and colourful, they won’t look as classic as silver, gold or other metals.

Stick to one colour palette

The best way to make your bangle selection look cohesive is to choose bracelets from the same colour palette. Wear silver tones with silver tones and gold with gold… and make sure any embellishments work well with each other too.

Keep it under half a dozen

There are certain situations and kinds of dress that call for a whole armful of bangles. For most of us, however, this is a look that works best in moderation! Six or less bangles will be enough to look like a consciously chosen collection, but not so many that they’ll dominate your whole outfit.

Don’t be afraid to mix widths

A pre-designed set of bangles can look fantastic together, but so can an individual mix and match version. We especially like the look of different width bangles paired together. This is a quirky touch that’s easy to pull off so long as you’ve chosen bracelets that are cohesive in colour and style.
