Have you been swept up into New Year spring cleaning yet? We certainly have! If nothing else, we think January is an excellent excuse to give your jewellery collection some TLC. This is especially true if it’s been working hard across the December party circuit!
Taking care of your jewellery shouldn’t be taxing. We’ve put together a quick four step guide to making sure your sparkles are all ship shape for the year ahead.
1. Take stock
The first part of the process is to bring your whole jewellery collection together and make sure everything is present and correct. Have any necklaces been left in travel bags? Are there any odd earrings down the back of the sofa? Is there a collection of rings hanging out on your kitchen windowsill?
2. Check for Necessary Repairs
Once you have everything together, the next job is to look for snags, breaks or tangles. Anything that needs to be repaired professionally should be set aside, and all tangles should be untangled.
3. Give Your Jewellery a Bath
There’s nothing like a quick bath to have your jewellery looking brand new again. There are all sorts of jewellery cleaners and ‘magic’ solutions on the market, but for a lot of pieces water and soap will do the job perfectly. Fill a bowl with warm water and a few drops of a gentle soap or detergent, then swill each piece of jewellery in the mixture, using a soft toothbrush for an extra scrub if needed.
4. Dry everything and put it away
Once your jewellery has been rinsed clean, make sure it’s completely dry before you put it away. A quick pat with a soft towel is the best way to do this. Use this opportunity to put everything back carefully where it should be, making sure all clasps are clasped to avoid future tangles!
