Here’s a holiday prep question for you: have you ever spent hours laying out different outfit combinations beside your suitcase? We certainly have! Okay, here’s another question: do you do the same with your jewellery, or do you usually end up throwing a few last minute picks in with your toilet bag?!
If it’s the second answer, we’re not surprised! Jewellery is often an afterthought when it comes to holiday prep.
But there is another way! We think spending a little time curating a capsule jewellery collection can really add something special to your holiday look.
Like any capsule, the perfect jewellery capsule should consist of a minimal number of beautifully chosen and wonderfully complimentary pieces.
How many pieces should you choose?
We’d say between five and ten as a rule of thumb. How you choose to distribute that is up to you: if you’re known for your statement earrings, packing one pair of studs probably won’t cut the muster. But if you’re more of a pendant girl, one pair of classic go-with-anything earrings would work well.
Consider your social calendar
Your plans for your holiday will obviously affect the kind of jewellery you pack. For example, if you’ll be attending a wedding or a black tie event, you’ll have very different jewellery needs than if you’ll be spending a week chilling by the pool.
Stick to one overall style
The most successful capsules stick to one overall look. Though you may have lots of different styles of jewellery, we recommend choosing just one style for your capsule. Think classic or boho or geometric or kitsch, not all four!
Include a statement piece
A statement piece of jewellery can really vamp up an outfit! Make sure you include at least one stand out item, whether it’s a necklace, a brooch or a pair of earrings.
Consider your metal types
If you prefer not to mix your metals, it’s probably wise to stick to either gold or silver coloured metals for your capsule. However, it’s also completely acceptable to mix and match metals, and this doesn’t have to be a consideration if you don’t want it to be.
And finally, pack them responsibly!
