The weather’s getting milder, the daffodils are out, and we’re more than ready to herald the arrival of spring! Along with lambs, Easter eggs and trench coats, this new season brings with it the time honoured tradition of the spring clean.
Spring cleaning is about more than just doing a whip round with the vacuum cleaner. The end of the long winter is an excellent time to give your physical and mental spaces a thorough clear out and prepare for the warmer spring and summer days ahead.
If you love the contents of your jewellery box as much as we do, you may want to use this as an opportunity to give it a thorough sorting out. After all, the cleaner your jewellery, the more it’ll sparkle!
Step one: take everything out of your jewellery box
A true spring clean is a thorough clean, so you’ll need to start by removing everything from your jewellery box. As an added bonus, you’ll almost certainly discover something you’d forgotten you had.
Step two: unravel and detangle
It’s common for jewellery to get tangled up while it’s being stored. Spend a bit of time unravelling and detangling any chains. A needle or safety pin might help you get the task done a bit faster.
Step three: set aside items that need a repair or that you no longer need
If you come across any broken or unloved items, set them aside ready to be repaired, sold, or donated.
Step four: use a damp cloth with a few drops of soap
Put a couple of drops of mild soap into a bowl of lukewarm water. This, paired with a couple of soft cloths, will be ideal for cleaning most types of jewellery. Wet the first cloth and use it to clean your jewellery, then buff it dry with the second.
Step five: clean your jewellery box
Think you’re finished? Hang on! Make sure you give your jewellery box itself a clean before you put anything back in it.
Step six: put everything back in
Once everything is clean and dry, you can put it back into the box. Place items carefully to avoid them getting tangled.
