We’re pretty sure no one could have missed the news about Prince Harry’s engagement to American actress Meghan Markle. There’s been a lot of media report and speculation about the big day over the last week. Though we’re just as partial to wedding fare such as gowns and bouquets as the next style lover, we’re particularly keen to hear about one very key element of their engagement… the ring!
Markle’s engagement ring seems to be the very best type of engagement ring: one that holds special significance to her and her fiancé. According to an interview the newly engaged pair gave last week, Prince Harry designed the ring himself.
The ring is a yellow gold band adorned with a large 3 carat cushion cut diamond and two smaller diamonds flanking it on either side.
The yellow gold band is significant as this is Ms Markle’s favourite precious metal.
The large cushion cut diamond is special not just thanks to it’s amazing clarity, but also because of it’s provenance. The diamond comes from Botswana, a country where the prince has spent a lot of time doing charity work. He and Meghan have spent time there together, and consider it an important location in their love story. It’s also very important to note that Botswana diamonds are largely mined by De Beers, who are a very ethical diamond company.
Finally, the two smaller diamonds on the ring are from the jewellery collection of Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
